In My Mailbox #5

In My Mailbox was started by Kristi over at The Story Siren

Evermore (The Immortals, #1)
by Alyson Noel

Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school— but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste. Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking— and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn’t know who he really is— or what he is. Damen is equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

Blue Moon (The Immortals, #2)
by Alyson Noel

Eager to learn everything she can about her new abilities as an Immortal, Ever turns to her beloved Damen to show her the way. But just as her powers are increasing, Damen’s are waning. In an attempt to save him, Ever travels to the magical dimension of Summerland, where she learns the secrets of Damen’s tortured past; a past which he has always kept hidden from her. But in her quest to cure Damen, Ever discovers an ancient text that details the workings of time. Now Ever must chose between turning back the past and saving her family from the accident that claimed their lives—or staying in the present and saving Damen, who grows sicker every day...

I know I have mentioned before that I live in a really small town, with no bookstore. I usually buy most of my books online, since the nearest bookstore is nearly two hours away! We do have a small Wal-Mart store in my town, but the book section is somewhat scarce. If I had to put percentages on the types of books at my small town wal-mart, I'd say the book section consisted 75% of trashy romances, 15% non-fiction, 5% childrens and 5% Young Adult (those are just random statistics, but you get the general idea). And usually the Young Adult selection consists of books that I already have. So once in a great while, they'll get something new in! This week I was lucky enough to spot "Evermore" and "Blue Moon" on the shelves and I threw them in my shopping cart without even a second thought! I am supposed to be "saving money", but, I just can't help myself!

  13. I live in a small town, but we're pretty close to a relatively small city that has plenty of bookstores. Plus, there's a small independent bookstore in my town (possibly the coolest place in existence). Hope you enjoy your books!

  16. I live in a smallish town also...but we are fortunate enough to have a chain and local bookstore. Have you ever checked out book swapping sites like BookMooch or PaperBackSwap?
Evermore is on my wishlist - glad you found a copy!

  18. I have heard a LOT of awesome things about both of those books.

I understand your pain. I grew up in a small town but we had a pretty decent Walmart, library and a small bookstore but we didn't do a lot of online shopping back then (I don't even want to state my age). My hometown is very conservative and I was lucky to get any RL Stine books. We used to go to the "city" (Only 300,000 population..lol) once a month and I would go to the thrift stores and yard sales and scores tons of books in one trip.

  20. I don't blame you. I can never pass up new books on Wal-Mart shelves! And I have no excuses, as my library is pretty awesome in YA (well, because I order for it, heh), and we have a ton of bookstores within driving distance. I just have no self control.

Enjoy both of the books! Happy reading!
